FAQ
- Can you train my dog or teach him commands?
- I wish I could, but I do not have any experience training animals. If you are concerned that your pet may need training, I suggest contacting a professional trainer.
- Can you stay overnight with my pets in your home or mine?
- Because I have my own dog, I cannot leave her overnight to care for another pet in someone else’s home. I also can’t bring animals into my home because of kenneling restrictions listed by the city. If you are concerned that your pet needs that extra attention while you are away, I can certainly work with you on finding a solution. Please see my services page for what I have to offer in this case.
- I never have to put my dog on a leash. Will you walk him off the leash?
- Some animals tend to listen to only their owners, so I would not be able to guarantee that your dog would pay attention to my commands while he was off leash. Therefore, for safety reasons, I will not allow your dog off leash or allow him to play in an open area that is not enclosed. As much as I would love to allow dogs to roam if that is what they’re used to, it is not the safest idea while your dog is in someone else’s care.
- Can you take my dog to a dog park or let him run around with other dogs if the area is enclosed?
- Because some dogs are unpredictable, territorial, or more dominate than others, I can’t allow your dog to have the freedom of running around freely in a dog park or enclosed area with other dogs. This is enforced strictly for the safety of your dog.
- Do you accept credit cards?
- Unfortunately I do not accept credit cards at this time. I accept cash and check only, made out to Burroughs Smiling Cats and Dogs.
- How about last-minute changes?
- I ask for 12 hours of notice if you need to cancel the visit. Most places have a 24-hour cancellation policy, but a lot can happen in a day! If you need to cancel or change the appointment, feel free to email me, call me, or text me at least 12 hours in advance. As for last-minute requests, I will always try to accommodate you, so if you are coming back later than anticipated, I will certainly be as helpful as is possible.
- Can you take my dog to the vet or groomer?
- I can transport your pets anywhere within my service area at the rate of $22 per hour, timed from pick up to drop off. I just need 2 days of advanced notice to ensure availability.
- What happens if it is raining and my dog still needs his walk?
- Upon our initial meeting, I will ask what it is you prefer. Part of having a job where you work outside involves working in bad weather. If your dog walks ok in the rain, cold, and heat, then I will walk in the rain, cold, and heat. In the event of rain, I do ask that you provide something that I could dry your dog off with upon our return.
